The Black Lusitano Stallion Study

Nobreza Barroca — The Black Lusitano

An intimate Baroque study of a jet-black Lusitano stallion, captured in the moment of collection. Bowed at the poll, with a soft, intelligent eye and the gleam of a classic double bridle in burnished brass and warm leather, this is the essence of the Iberian horse as the Kings saw him.

Painted in the style of the 17th-century Flemish Masters, with deep chiaroscuro, golden rim light catching the black coat, and rich impasto texture. The dark, almost black background makes the horse emerge from shadow, timeless and noble.

This piece is part of my Baroque Horse, Horse of Kings collection, celebrating the Lusitano as a living work of art; power contained, gentleness in the hand.

Perfect for a dressage stable, private study, equestrian boutique, or as a powerful statement piece in a dark-academia interior.

The original photograph was taken of a true black Lusitano in Portuguese tack, transformed into an oil painting to honor the royal portraits of the Baroque era, when the black horse was a symbol of majesty and mystery.
