The Black Lusitano in State

£30.00

A full conformation Baroque portrait of a jet-black Lusitano stallion, standing in classical collection against an abyssal black ground. Every detail is preserved... the Portuguese saddle with its foxskin & crupper, the herringbone-stitched leather, the brown cavesson and double reins hanging in elegant loops, and the leather boots protecting noble legs.

Rendered as a 17th-century Royal Stud painting, this work channels the stud books of the Kings of Portugal , where a horse was painted not just for beauty, but for proof of nobility. The light rakes across the black coat revealing blue-black highlights, while the saddle's warm tan leather glows like amber against the darkness.

This is a true working portrait: not a fantasy horse, but a real Lusitano horse in his everyday Portuguese tack, elevated to timeless art. The darkness isolates him, so nothing distracts from his silhouette, the short-coupled back, the high-set neck, the powerful hindquarter that defines the breed.

From my Baroque Horse, Horse of Kings collection.
